A collision on Mill Road just north of the railroad tracks sent two people to the hospital late this afternoon.

It was a near head-on crash, police said. A Ford sedan northbound on Mill Road appears to have crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with a southbound Lincoln sedan, according to police.

Both drivers were taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No tickets were issued; the cause of the accident remains under investigation, according to police.
