A new-look Riverhead boys squad took the home floor yesterday against a bigger Copiague team, but this Riverhead team was a lot different than last year’s squad. This year, they are quicker, stronger under the basket, hungry for rebounds, and quick to develop the play in the offensive zone, something they lacked last season.
The Blue Waves held their own against Copiague team. They showed promise from the start, constantly jumping out to small, but significant leads, making Copiague amp up their own play just to stay in the game. The first half ended with Copiague on top 25-23.
Riverhead once again was flying, they took a lead into the fourth quarter, but some errant passes and a couple of Copiague steals put the Blue Waves behind. They played with intensity right to the end, something they’ve lacked in the past.
Christian Pace finished with a team-high 20 points, Cir’rus Davender and Quasheim Miller both had 11 points and Albert Daniels had 9 points.
Riverhead finished trailing Copiague by four. Final score: Copiague 64, Riverhead 60.
