The Calverton man indicted on attempted murder, arson, assault and criminal contempt charges for setting fire to his girlfriend in May pleaded guilty to all charges yesterday in Suffolk County Criminal Court, according to a district attorney’s office spokesperson.
Osborne and the woman, who is homeless and was living in a tent in a wooded area near Osborne’s house, had an argument the day prior to the incident, police said. On the evening of May 17, Osborne poured a flammable liquid into a mesh opening of the tent where she was sleeping and set the tent ablaze.
With her legs on fire, the victim was able to dive out of the tent and roll on the ground to extinguish the flames, according to prosecutors. She told police she saw Osborne running away from the scene.
The 33-year-old female suffered burns to her legs, face and hands.
Osborne yesterday pleaded guilty to all eight counts of a May 31 indictment. In exchange for the plea Judge Mark Cohen agreed to sentence Osborne to 10 years in state prison with 5 years of post-release supervision.
Osborne, who was represented by the Legal Aid Society, remains in custody at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside. He is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Jan. 23.
