Riverhead was defeated by Central Islip 72-65 at Riverhead High School yesterday. Don’t let the score fool you, Riverhead played well. They were going point for point with a tough, quick, Central Islip squad that thought this game would be a walk in the park.
Riverhead was tough, solid on the transition down court, and had some nifty scoring plays, as well as three-point shots that dropped at will.
Central Islip did its best to keep one step ahead of the Blue Waves, moving down court lightning fast and slick passing down low. The first half ended with Central Islip leading 40-31.
The second half saw the Blue Waves come back several times to tie the score after being down by as much as 10 points. Some questionable officiating slowed down the Blue Waves train and gave the advantage back to Central Islip.
Midway through the fourth quarter, with Riverhead trailing by four points, and the crowd at a deafening roar, the Blue Waves mounted a comeback, but were not able to finish the run.
Quashiem Miller had 18 points, Christian Pace had 12 points, Zy’Aire Pittman had 10 points, and Cir’rus “CC” Davender had 9 points.
