A fast-moving fire destroyed a home in the Lakewood mobile home park on River Road in Calverton this afternoon.

The elderly female resident had evacuated the home prior to the Riverhead Fire Department’s arrival and was uninjured, Riverhead Fire Chief Kevin Brooks said.

The Riverhead Town fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.

“When I got there the fire had already gone through the roof and was in the trees in the back of the trailer,” said the chief, who was first on scene, arriving within a few minutes of the call. “It was already pushing out the bedroom windows,” he said.

The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes, Brooks said.

No one but the homeowner was in the residence when the fire broke out, he said.

Another fire in the same mobile home park left an elderly couple homeless in late December.
