Water service has been restored to all customers affected by this morning’s water main break in Wading River, the Riverhead Water District announced this afternoon.

The break in a water main in Wading River-Manor Road near Francis Street was reported at 7:17 a.m., water district Superintendent Mark Conklin said in a statement this afternoon. The break was the result of a downed power line. See prior story. PSEG-LI said this afternoon that, as of 4 p.m., power has been restored to 85 percent of the 85,829 customers affected by yesterday’s nor’easter. Scattered power outages remain in Wading River, affecting approximately 50 customers in the hamlet, according to the PSEG-LI website.

Water district crews worked throughout the day to correct water pressure deficiencies and discoloration issues. Adequate water pressure has been restored and crews are continuing to work to correct discoloration problems, the district said in a statement.

“These operations may dislodge sediment within a water main and cause a temporary discoloration,” Conklin said. “If you are experiencing discolored water, let your cold water tap run sufficiently until the problem clears. This may take up to 20 minutes. If this doesn’t clear your water, please wait an hour and try running the water again,” he said.

“Your patience and cooperation is appreciated,” Conklin said.
