A Coram woman was arrested on a grand larceny charge after she removed a wallet from a man at a West Main Street convenience store last night, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police said Alice Burns, 50, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony.
The male victim called police to report a robbery at about 8 p.m., police said. He told officers that a woman had removed his wallet at the Stop and Go Mini Mart, 55 West Main St. The man, after realizing his wallet was removed, followed the suspect to the Flanders Road area and identified her to responding patrol units and detectives, according to a police press release.
Burns was processed and held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court. The Southampton Town Police and New York State Police assisted in the investigation, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
