A Baiting Hollow woman is organizing a drive to collect nonperishable foods and supplies for people struggling to recover from widespread severe flooding in North Carolina as a result of Hurricane Florence.

A collection day has been scheduled at Riverhead Fire Department headquarters Sunday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donations of the following items are sought:
Nonperishable foods- pouches, cans (pull-top only)
Personal hygiene items and toiletries
Cleaning supplies – bleach, mops, wipes, buckets, garbage bags
Walmart gift cards

“It is my hope to fill a moving truck with supplies for North Carolina,” said Colleen Coleman-Spiciati, who is spearheading the collection.

The slow-moving, massive storm dumped record-breaking heavy rain in coastal areas of North Carolina for several days in mid-September, inundating many coastal and inland towns and cities and causing major rivers to overflow. Main roads and even interstate highways remained impassible for days.
