Police: Cigarette thief nabbed running from gas station after break-in

New York State Police officers on routine patrol heard an alarm at the Mobil gas station on East Main Street at 3:41 a.m. Saturday and saw a man running from the store, according to the report. They followed the suspect and notified Riverhead police for assistance.

Police located the suspect hiding in bushes nearby. They also located the proceeds of the crime: 10 packs of Newport cigarettes.

Willie A. Frazier, 35, had thrown a concrete block through a window to gain entry to the store, police said.

He was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, arraigned and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident are asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department, 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
