High wind and coastal flood warnings have been issued for the East End in Saturday as a coastal storm bears down on the region. A flash flood watch is also in effect.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph with sustained east winds of 25 to 35 mph are in the forecast for eastern Suffolk, according to the National Weather Service.

Downed limbs, trees, and power lines will cause scattered power outages are expected.

Widespread moderate to locally major coastal flooding is expected in vulnerable coastal locations along Peconic and Gardiners bays and across and the North Fork, according to the weather service.

Inundation of two to two-and-a-half, locally three feet above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas is expected.

This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low-lying property, the weather service said. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays, according to the weather service.

Breaking waves of three to five feet along the Long Island Sound shoreline, with four to seven feet across Orient Point, will result in beach flooding and erosion with localized splash-over on shoreline properties and roads during times of high tide Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A flash flood watch is also in effect from late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. Rain will develop after midnight Friday and continue through Saturday morning before tapering off early in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts will generally average between one and two inches, however locally higher amounts will be possible, especially across Long Island and Eastern Connecticut.
