A furniture store is moving into the space soon to be vacated by Modell’s Sporting Goods.
Ashley HomeStore has signed a lease and will be taking occupancy of the site Feb. 1, said Nancy Erickson, a broker with leasing agent Colliers International.
The company is the largest retailer of furniture and bedding in the U.S., with more than 700 locations and one of a group of companies in Ashley Furniture Industries, the largest furniture manufacturer in the world, according to the company’s website. Privately owned, it is headquartered in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Ashley retail stores are independently owned franchises. Locations include Patchogue, Lake Grove and Farmingdale on Long Island.
Modell’s Sporting Goods, an original tenant when Riverhead Centre opened in 2003, will close its doors by mid-January, according to a store employee.
With the exception of a store previously occupied by Lane Bryant, the shopping center is full and most tenants have long-term leases, Erickson said. “We’re in good shape.”
Other national retailers in Riverhead Centre include Best Buy, Michael’s Crafts, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier One Imports, Home Depot, Famous Footwear, DSW and Petco. Two restaurant pads are occupied by Friday’s and IHOP. A ShopRite supermarket opened in the center last month, in the 60,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Waldbaum’s. The center also has two banks and a locally owned restaurant, Country Rotisserie. Ashley Homestore will be located between Bed Bath & Beyond and Best Buy.
