A coastal flood advisory and a flash flood watch are in effect for eastern Suffolk County today until 1 p.m.

Rain today may be heavy at times later this morning and will continue throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service, as a massive winter storm slams the northeast. The storm is expected to dump one to two feet of snow upstate and across New England.

Coastal flooding will occur around the times of high tide this morning. High tide will be around two feet above astronomical tides. (There’s a full moon tonight.)

Expect around one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas, according to the advisory. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

A flash freeze is possible tonight into Monday morning as temperatures fall from a peak in the low 50s this afternoon into the teens around midnight, forecasters say. Wind chill values are expected to fall to 10-below Monday morning.
