Wind and coastal flood advisories have been issued for the East End by the National Weather Service in New York.
Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected this morning through tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. today and again from 5 p.m. until noon tomorrow, the weather service said.
Forecasters say one to two feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, resulting in shallow flooding.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
The combination of elevated water levels and large breaking waves will cause beach flooding and erosion on north-facing shorelines of the forks of Long Island, the weather service said.
Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines and scattered power outages are expected, according to the NWS.
The wind advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow.
The wind and coastal impacts are the result of a low pressure system passing slowly southeast of Long Island, according to NWS forecasters.
Rain will continue today through tomorrow night and possibly Saturday morning, according to the forecast. Daytime high temperatures will reach the mid-50s.
The sun will peek out agin on Sunday, in time for the Riverhead Country Fair. The NWS forecast is calling for party sunny skies Sunday with highs in the upper 60s. Sunny skies will prevail on Columbus Day with highs in the mid-60s.
