The driver involved in an Oct. 14 fatal motor vehicle crash in Wading River was arrested yesterday for providing a false name to officers, Suffolk County Police announced last night.

Detectives investigating the accident that claimed the life of 90-year-old Rose Mastrodomenico of Calverton determined that Tara Demauro, 48, of Rocky Point was driving the Jeep that struck Mastrodomenico’s Nissan on Route 25A Monday morning, according to a police press release. Following the crash, Demauro provided officers with the name of a relative, Meghan Cunningham of Rocky Point, who was not involved, police said.

Demauro was charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree, making a punishable false written Statement and driving with a suspended license, according to the report. She was released on a desk appearance ticket and is due to appear at the First District Court in Central Islip on a later date, police said.

Police said Monday that Mastrodomenico was driving a 2014 Nissan eastbound on Route 25A when she attempted to enter the parking lot of 271 Route 25A and her vehicle was struck by a westbound 2006 Jeep at 9:48 a.m.

Mastrodomenico was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
