The child critically injured in a crash on Flanders Road Thursday morning has died, New York State Police announced this afternoon.

Gracelyn Perkowski, 4, of Riverhead succumbed to her injuries yesterday, State Police said in an update released today.

State Police said the investigation remains open and ongoing. They are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at (631) 756-3300.

The child was a passenger in a car driven by her mother, Amy Wesolowski, 34, of Riverhead.

Wesolowski was charged following the crash with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a class E felony, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both class A misdemeanors, police said Thursday.

Wesolowski, the operator of a 2005 Toyota RAV-4, collided with a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan operated by Sonya Fezza, 29, of Water Mill, on Flanders Road near the intersection with Fanning Road yesterday at about 11:40 a.m., police said in a press release Thursday.

Both Wesolowski and Fezza were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment and were later released, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
