The Jamesport Fire District’s proposal to purchase property adjoining its headquarters won overwhelming support from voters in yesterday’s special election.

District voters by a vote of 106-8 approved a proposition authorizing the $1.275 million purchase and the issuance of bonds to finance $925,000 of the purchase price.

The district has already made a $120,000 down payment and the $230,000 remainder of the purchase price not covered by the financing will be paid out of the district’s building reserve fund.

“The board of fire commissioners would like to thank the community for the overwhelming support,” Jamesport Fire District Chairman Charles Thomas said this morning.
