A rideshare driver was assaulted by armed robbers who forcibly stole his car at about 2 o’clock this morning in Wading River, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release this afternoon.

Police said they received a call about a suspicious person in the area of East Woodland Drive in Wading River at about 2:04 a.m. Responding officers found the rideshare driver, who was the victim of an armed robbery whose vehicle was forcibly stolen, according to police.

There were three suspects involved in the robbery and two of the suspects displayed handguns, police said.

The first suspect was wearing red pants and red sweatshirt, the second suspect was dressed in all black, and the third suspect was wearing blue jeans and a black sweatshirt, according to a description provided by police.

Police are asking any person who may have witnessed or has information regarding this incident to contact the Riverhead Police Department Detective Division at 631-727-4500. All calls and information will remain confidential, police said.
