Riverhead Town police report the arrest of an alleged shoplifter for grand larceny at an outlet store Sunday evening.
Police said they were called for a larceny in progress at Saks Off Fifth at Tanger Outlets yesterday at 6:40 p.m.
Store security told responding officers they had witnessed a woman remove items from the store without paying for them.
Police said they subsequently arrested Isabel J. Alanyapaz, 32, of Queens. She was charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, according to the report. Alanyapaz was also charged with one count of False Personation, as she provided a false name to investigating officers.
Under N.Y. Penal Law, a person is guilty of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree when the value of the property stolen is at least $3,000.
Alanyapaz was processed and held overnight for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, she said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
