2013 1216 bow hunter

The annual lottery for the upcoming bow-hunting season for deer will be held at Riverhead Town Hall on Monday evening at 6 p.m.

Participants must be Riverhead Town residents or property owners in possession of a New York State deer hunting license, big game tag and bow hunter education certificate. Participants must be present in-person for the lottery.

The Town Board has designated for deer-hunting during the archery season portions of town-owned land within the Calverton Enterprise Park, as well as property at 1751 Sound Avenue in Calverton and property on Middle Road in Riverhead.

Archery season for deer runs from Oct. 1 through Jan. 31. However the EPCAL and Sound Avenue sites will be open for bow-hunting Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 only. Bow-hunting for deer will continue on the Middle Road site through Jan. 31.

The lottery is run by the town’s wildlife management advisory committee, which sets rules for the conduct of the hunt.
