A drunk driver crashed into two Riverhead Police Department marked vehicles parked on Roanoke Avenue Saturday night, Riverhead Police said in a press release.
Neither police vehicle was occupied at the time of the collision, police said.
Police were responding to a call for service at 818 Roanoke Avenue last night at about 10:10 p.m., according to the press release. Both marked police vehicles had their rear emergency light bar activated at the time of the collision, police said.
A 2012 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jason Velasquez, 28, of Riverhead, traveling northbound on Roanoke Avenue collided with the parked police vehicles, according to the report. An investigation revealed Velasquez was intoxicated, police said. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations, transported to Riverhead Police Department headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
No injuries were reported.
