A Riverside man was arrested on assault, menacing and weapon charges after attacking another man with a machete on Pine Street in Riverside, Southampton Town Police said in a press release Saturday.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a machete assault underway at 40A Pine Street in Riverside Friday shortly after 3 p.m.
Responding officers found a 24-year-old man covered in blood from a head wound, according to the police report. The injured man was treated at the scene by police and Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
The man with the machete barricaded himself inside the residence at 40A Pine St., police said. Hostage negotiators from the Southampton Town Police Department Emergency Service Unit and New York State Police responded to the scene.
Detectives worked with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office to obtain and effect a search warrant at that address, police said, and at 11:33 p.m. Friday, Adonias Estrada-Sinay, 35, of Riverside, was arrested on charges of Assault, Menacing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Estrada-Sinay was held overnight and brought to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment, where a judge set bail at $50,000. He is currently being held at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside.
Police ask any witnesses to contact Southampton Town Police Department detectives at 631-702-2230, or to call the department’s crime hotline at 631-728-3454. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
