A 24-year-old Calverton man died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Flanders Tuesday evening, Southampton Town Police said.
Walter Joel Garcia was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 104 Tuesday that left the roadway and crashed into a tree at about 5:43 p.m.,, police said in a press release Wednesday. Both Garcia and the driver of the vehicle, whom the press release did not identify, were injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to the report. Garcia succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.
The crash occurred on Route 104 between the County Road 31 traffic circle and Pleasure Drive, police said. Following the accident, Route 104 in that area was closed until about 8:15 p.m. while police detectives investigated the scene.
