Riverhead Town Police reported 208 criminal incidents, filed 117 criminal charges and made 106 arrests in July, according to a monthly crime report released by Police Chief Ed Frost in September.
The criminal offenses reported in August, according to the police chief’s report were:
- Aggravated Assault – 2
- Simple Assault – 29
- Intimidation – 6
- Burglary/Breaking & Entering – 3
- Shoplifting – 29
- Pocket Picking – 2
- Theft from a motor vehicle – 13
- All other larceny – 10
- Counterfeiting/Forgery – 1
- Identity Theft – 2
- Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property – 21
- Drug/Narcotic Violations – 7
- Weapon Law Violations – 2
- Driving Under the Influence – 51
- Trespass of Real Property – 10
- All Other Offenses – 20
The August report reflects only National Incident-Based Reporting System data. The National Incident-Based Reporting System, known as NIBRS, is a crime data reporting system implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Reporting by the Riverhead Police Department fully transitioned to NIBRS as of July. - Petit Larceny – 11
- Town Code Violation – 14
- Trespass – 2
- Unlawful Dealing with a Child – 6
- Unlawful Possession of Fireworks -1
- Vehicle and Traffic Law – 1
- Warrant – 19
Of the 106 persons arrested in August, 68 were held for arraignment, according to the report.
Police reported 78 domestic incidents in August.
The town issued 1,109 summonses in August: 64 town code violations, 762 traffic tickets and 283 parking tickets.
There were 2,695 non-criminal incidents reported by police in August.
