Joan A. Polywoda of Southold died on Nov. 27, 2024, at home. She was 90 years old.
Born on July 23, 1934, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to John and Ann Woessner, her family moved to Mattituck when she was 13. She married John Polywoda of Southold in 1953. Together, they opened Polywoda Beverage in 1961 and served the community until their retirement in 1988. Her family said she will be remembered for her love of gardening and the joy she found spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, and her son, John Jr. She is survived by her three daughters, Joan Broadhurst (Gary) of Sauquoit, New York, Joy Kaelin of Southold, and Jill Klavas (Peter) of Southold; by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren
The family will receive visitors on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery.
