A new self-storage warehouse is gearing up to open in Riverhead’s Polish Town.
More Storage, a locally owned two-story 40,000-square-foot storage facility on Marcy Avenue, is hoping to open its doors next week, according to Jim Matuszewski, the business’s co-owner and a Flanders resident.
The facility has 320 climate-controlled storage units of varying sizes, the smallest being five feet by five feet ($50 per month) and the largest being 10 feet by 20 feet ($450-$600 per month). Larger units are accessible from outside of the building and provide space for businesses that store heavy equipment and appliances, while the smaller units cater to people moving or storing office supplies and files, Matuszewski said.
“There’s a huge amount of interest,” said Matuszewski. A Hamptons builder, Matuszewski said he and his business partner Frank Fineo of Bridgehampton saw a need for storage in the area as more apartments are developed and the aging population downsizes from their homes.
People can rent and reserve their storage units completely online. “It’s contactless. In other words, [with] this facility, you can go online, you can rent a unit, you can pay for the unit, you get your code to get in the building…and it’ll give you directions to your unit,” Matuszewski said.
People interested in renting can also call the facility to book a unit.

Matuszewski said the facility was designed with Polish Town in mind. The interior and exterior of the building sports a white and red color scheme, the same as the Polish flag and the Riverhead Polish Hall, which sits across the street. A Polish flag flies under an American flag on a flagpole outside the building.
The owners saw a need for storage in Riverhead. Contractors need storage spaces, so do people moving and senior citizens downsizing, he said.
“Our goal is to serve Riverhead and surrounding communities, and we want to offer the Riverhead community what we can to help them,” said Sharon Matuszewski, the manager at More Storage and Jim’s wife.
More Storage is offering grand opening specials for Riverhead community residents, the Matuszewskis said, including one month of free storage. “We’re more flexible with pricing with residents and we try to accommodate them in every way,” Jim Matuszewski said.
After the coronavirus pandemic delayed the project for two years, Matuszewski said he is relieved that it is so close to opening. He said he needs a certificate of occupancy from Riverhead Town before More Storage can open. More Storage is taking reservations while it prepares to open, Matuszewski said.
