Riverhead firefighters made a quick stop of a house fire on Linda Lane East late last night.
Riverhead Fire Department responded to a call about a fire in an outside electrical box at the home at 14 Linda Lane East, in the Rolling Woods section of Riverhead at about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, First Assistant Chief Pete Kurzyna said today.
The first chief upon arrival saw smoke showing and alerted headquarters to tone out a working fire.
Flames were visible in the north side of the home, where the fire extended to the attic, Kurzyna said.
The residents of the home were outside when first responders arrived on scene.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. and damage to the structure appeared minimal, RFD Chief J.R. Renten said in a phone interview today.
“The guys did a great job,” Renten said. “It was a really good hit on the fire — saved the house,” he said. About 45 Riverhead firefighters responded to the call with three engines and a ladder truck.
“We had assistance from Jamesport and Flanders at the scene in Westhampton Beach stood by at our firehouse while we were working at the fire.” Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance stood by at the scene, as did Riverhead Police.
“We had it under control pretty quick,” Renten said.
“We spend a lot of time on training,” the chief said. “And the more you train, the better you become. “We’ve got a good group of guys and I’ve got good chiefs underneath me. Everybody works well together.”
No one was injured.
The fire department turned the scene over to the Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office for an investigation.
