Thomas J. Melvin of Aquebogue died on Aug. 19, 2025, at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 80 years old.
Born in Riverhead on Aug. 26, 1944, he was the son of Alfred and Reba (Oliver) Melvin. He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1962. Thomas served in the Navy from 1962 to 1968. He married Joan Kruszeski on October. 19, 1968 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport.
He was a local roofer and caretaker at Calverton National Cemetery. Thomas enjoyed collecting baseball cards, gardening, bowling and spending time at home.
Predeceased by his siblings, William, Buster, John, Ellen and Mary Jane, he is survived by his wife Joan of Riverhead, his children, Thomas of Aquebogue and Jaime Nappi of North Carolina; and by his brother, Robert, of Arizona. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
Cremation will be private. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
