Residents who had property damage during the Oct. 12-13 storm are asked to self-report damages to their homes and/or businesses to New York State “to develop and augment potential requests for available federal assistance programs,” Riverhead Police said in a press release this afternoon.

New York State has developed an online form allowing residents to self-report damages to their homes and/or business. The form can be accessed here. It is submitted directly to New York State, police said. The purpose of this form is solely to collect information. It is not a request for relief funding, police said.

The town is working with the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management to gather information and data on the coastal storm’s impacts. Multiple areas throughout Suffolk County, including portions of Riverhead Town, were affected by the storm, police said.

The Oct. 12-13 nor’easter brought strong winds and drenching rains to the region. Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for eight downstate counties, including Suffolk, in anticipation of impacts from the storm. There was significant coastal flooding, shoreline erosion, some toppled trees and scattered power outages locally.
