Due to the extreme cold temperatures with wind chill values forecasted between 5º and 10º F, the Riverhead Senior Center will be open as a warming center today until 4 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Riverhead Town Police said in a weather advisory.
The senior center is located at 60 Shade Tree Lane in Riverhead 11901.
“If you can, stay inside overnight tonight,” the advisory said. “When you go outside, be prepared for the cold. Dress in layers and wear a hat and gloves. Make sure that all areas of exposed skin are protected. Frostbite can occur in a short period of time.”
In case of an emergency, police said, dial 911. If you need immediate shelter, call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
