Riverhead native Rashad Robinson will return home for a conversation, audience Q&A and book signing at Riverhead Free Library on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Robinson, a Riverhead High School graduate who went on to become a prominent national voice on racial and social justice issues, will discuss his first book, From Presence to Power: How to Take On the Fights That Matter—and Win with Denise Civiletti, editor and publisher of RiverheadLOCAL.
Robinson served for many years as president of Color Of Change, where he led national campaigns aimed at influencing public policy, corporate practices, criminal justice reform and LGBTQ+ rights.
In From Presence to Power, Robinson examines how movements can move beyond visibility and representation to build lasting power and achieve meaningful change. The book, published by One World/Penguin Random House, was released July 28.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event. Attendees may also bring previously purchased copies for Robinson to sign.
The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
