Airlift

The operator of a motorcycle involved in a crash with another vehicle on Rt. 58 Friday night was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. Rt. 58 between Ostrander Ave. and Oliver St. was closed to traffic for about four hours, Riverhead Police said.

The operator of the bike was ejected and went through the windshield of the sedan, according to an emergency worker. Both the biker and the driver of the car sustained head injuries and were transported by Suffolk County Police helicopters to Stony Brook.

Two crashes on Doctors Path within 15 minutes of each other sent three people to area hospitals this evening.

A school bus carrying four students to the Riverhead Charter School was involved in a crash on CR 51 this morning, injuring the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle. The children were taken to PBMC for observation.
