Beach cleanups

A wire mesh receptacle crafted in the form of a giant fish has been gobbling up recyclable cans and bottles at Riverhead Town's Iron Pier Beach in Northville, helping to keep the beach — and the Long Island Sound — clean.

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation is looking for volunteers to help with their “Pick It Up!” beach cleanup campaign. Roanoke beach is on the group's list of cleanup sites June 11.
