Coastal flood warning

Widespread minor to moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline are expected, with 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas, according to the National Weather Service.

A coastal flood warning and wind advisory have been issued as a winter storm will to bring rain and strong winds into the region Thursday night through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Riverhead Police are advising downtown residents to move their vehicles out of the Peconic River parking lot due to expected moderate to major flooding to flood-prone coastal areas during Monday morning's high-tide cycle.

The National Weather Service has issued high wind and coastal flood warnings for Riverhead and the North Fork for overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, for tropical storm force winds gusting to 55-60 mph and potential coastal flooding of 3 feet above ground.

The nor'easter, packing strong winds gusting up to 45 mph today, is expected to drop seven to 13 inches of snow in eastern Suffolk County. It has shut down schools and government offices and disrupted travel across the region.

Autumn takes a final bow today with a warm, windy, rainy day.  A storm system moving into the region is bringing high winds and rain, possibly heavy at times, to the Long Island region in advance of the official arrival of winter today at 5:23 p.m. A coastal flood warning, wind advisory and flood watch are in effect.
