Riverhead Community Awareness Program

Riverhead CAP has received two multi-year grant awards totaling $2.55 million to support its substance abuse and mental health prevention programs.

The Riverhead CAP “Say No to Drugs” march returned to downtown Riverhead Friday morning after a two-year pandemic hiatus, welcomed back by perfect spring weather and hundreds of enthusiastic participants and spectators.

CAP's annual march against drugs, alcohol and tobacco will return this year after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The march is set for Friday, June 10. Tijuana Fulford of the Butterfly Effect Project is this year's special guest and keynote speaker.

Community organizations will present a “Parent University” event at Riverhead High School on Wednesday to teach families how to recognize and respond to drug use in their children, and provide training for when and how to administer the overdose rescue drug Narcan.

Riverhead Town Police report the arrest of four people on charges stemming from an underage alcohol sales investigation in town.

Riverhead Town looks to Riverhead CAP Youth Coalition for assistance to help prevent marijuana use by the community's youth.

In partnership with local businesses and Peconic Bay Medical Center, CAP is placing 2-inch stickers on participating businesses' items — like deli sandwiches, take out bags and coffee cups — which say: “Congratulations Class of 2021. Live Your Best Life: Celebrate Sober.”

The council is composed of 30 members aged 14 to 21 who work on teams to identify and prioritize issues that affect Suffolk County youth.

Fourth grade students from Phillips Avenue Elementary School and Roanoke Avenue Elementary Schools are celebrating the Great Kindness Challenge this week.

The Riverhead Peacemakers will receive the United for Kindness award from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center on May 22, 2019 at PACER’s National Unity Awards ceremony in Bloomington, Minnesota.
