Riverhead Solar 2 hearings postponed after developer opts to transfer application to new renewable energy siting office

Hearings scheduled today before the Electric Generating Siting Board have been postponed because Riverhead Solar 2 has filed notice that it intends to transfer its application to a new state office created to expedite approvals of renewable energy projects.

State to hold virtual public hearings Tuesday on proposed 36-MW solar facility in Calverton

The NYS Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment will hold virtual public hearings Tuesday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the proposal of sPower to build a 36-megawatt solar power facility on approximately 252 acres in Calverton. People interested in making a statement must register by Friday at 5 p.m.

Riverhead officials seek moratorium on new commercial solar facilities

Riverhead Town is considering a 12-month moratorium on new commercial solar energy production facilities. The moratorium would not affect the two applications for major solar production facilities currently pending for some 488 acres of land in Calverton.

Riverhead Planning Board cries foul, requires new environmental review for already-approved sPower solar facility

“In my opinion, this is a lack of information-sharing by sPower and possible willful misrepresentation with intent to deceive,” Planning Board Chairman Stan Carey said, citing sPower's representations that an underground tie-line would be used only for the 20MW solar facility approved by the town earlier this year. Now the company wants to use the same tie-line for a new 36 MW facility being reviewed by the state.

State begins review of 290-acre 36 MW solar power facility proposed for Calverton

A 36 MW solar power generation facility on 290 acres of leased vacant land in Calverton is now under review by the a facility siting board of the State Department of Public Service, which has sole jurisdiction over the application. But the Town of Riverhead may reopen environmental review of a previously approved 20 MW facility proposed by the same company so that the impacts of both facilities may be examined.

The public informational meetings will take place today in two sessions, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Residence Inn located at 2012 Old Country Road, when company representatives will explain the project’s details, answer questions and receive public comment.
