Winter storm

A winter storm watch is in effect for Suffolk County from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, with blizzard conditions possible, according to the National Weather Service.

“Overall, I think we fared pretty well in this storm,” Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said. The chief and Riverhead Highway Superintendent George Woodson asked residents to be patient as clean-up continues.

Riverhead Central School District will be closed Tuesday. It will be a regular snow day. In other words, there will be no remote instruction.

Last night’s storm turned out to be a fickle affair, with precipitation overnight changing back and forth from snow to sleet and rain, back to snow and then again to sleet and rain. The end result: an icy, slushy mess.
