Winter Weather Advisory

Rain will likely change to freezing rain in Riverhead late this afternoon or early this evening, as temperatures fall to around 31° by 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Rain, freezing rain or sleet are likely until about 10 p.m. Little or no ice accumulation is expected locally.

A snowfall of 4 to 6 inches is expected on Long Island overnight tonight and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

People returning to work and school after the holiday break will be dealing with the first accumulating snowfall of the winter on their way home this afternoon: 1-3 inches of snow is expected, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a winter weather advisory for our area.

Snow and freezing rain early this morning will result in icy conditions on untreated roadways and walkways, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement this morning.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for total accumulations of four to eight inches across the region before the snow ends Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for southeastern New York. The advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m.

Two to four inches of snow are forecast for Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory is in effect this morning for freezing rain and additional ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.

Snow falling across the region is expected to make the Wednesday morning commute difficult.
