The investigation into 15 horses found by the new owner of a foreclosed Calverton farm is still developing, according to Suffolk County SPCA Chief, Roy Gross.
“Someone is responsible for these horses and we’re looking into that right now,” Gross said Wednesday morning. “They have not been abandoned, though it initially appeared they had been. The horses are being cared for [by their owner].”
Gross said the horses appeared to have been turned out during the winter, which is not illegal, and added that though the horses appeared lean, they were, in fact, being provided with food.
