SCHS is pleased to announce that the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation has given a $50,000 gift to the Suffolk County Historical Society for the restoration of the East Wing Gallery space.
“This is an exciting gift for the Suffolk County Historical Society. We are extremely grateful to have the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation as a partner in advancing the historic preservation mission of SCHS,” said SCHS Executive Director Kathy Curran. “ This generous grant demonstrates a commitment to preserving the rich history of Suffolk County, Long Island.”
“The Foundation is pleased to support this project of restoring the Suffolk County Historical Society’s historic structure in order to increase access to the exhibition space,” said Jennifer Attonito, Executive Director of the Robert David Lion Foundation.
The Foundation, established in 1987, primarily supports the study of New York State history, with an emphasis on Suffolk County. Its mission is to educate and inform the general public, particularly in Suffolk County, concerning culture, art, and historic tradition, and to sponsor and encourage the preservation, restoration, and exhibition by existing historical societies.
Robert David Lion Gardiner was, until his death in August 2004, the 16th Lord of the Manor of Gardiner’s Island, NY. The Foundation is inspired by Robert David Lion Gardiner’s personal passion for New York and Suffolk County history.
