MAlessi-web-resizeFormer N.Y. assemblyman Marc Alessi has joined the Ronkonkoma law firm of Campolo, Middleton & McCormick as a member of its corporate and real estate practice groups, assisting small- to mid- sized companies and the entrepreneurs who run them.

Alessi’ advice to clients stems from his own experience navigating Long Island’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, the firm said in a press release. He has helped launch and finance a number of early-stage companies across a variety of industries, including biotechnology, IT, construction and real estate. He is a founding member of the Hamptons Angel Network and a member of the Long Island Angel Network, previously serving as the executive director and a board member. He also helped establish Accelerate Long Island, of which SynchroPet is a portfolio company. As chairman and founding CEO of SynchroPet, Alessi raised the angel round of funding and built the team that is bringing the company’s first devices to the marketplace.

Alessi has a history of public service on Long Island and in New York State, having served as a member of the New York State Legislature and as a board member of the Long Island Power Authority. He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2005 and served for three terms, representing the First Assembly District, which includes the towns of  Riverhead, Southold and Shelter Island and part of the Town of Brookhaven.

He is also well known as an entrepreneur on Long Island, having helped launch and finance a number of early-stage companies across a diverse set of industries. Alessi himself has founded a number of companies in the biotechnology sector, the IT sector, and in construction and real estate.

Alessi was honored this year as  an “Innovator of the Year” by Innovate Long Island. His lifelong passion for entrepreneurship earned him an honor in the biotech category for his work with SynchroPet, a biomedical device company he launched that has licensed three patents from Brookhaven National Lab for a new way to build PET (positron emission tomography) devices for both small animal and human medical imaging. The inaugural Innovator Awards breakfast, which celebrated Long Island’s “best and brightest ideas,” was held on October 21 at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Campolo, Middleton & McCormick has offices in Ronkonkoma and Bridgehampton.  Alessi may be reached at 631-738-9100 and by email.
