Three Queens men were arrested on forged instrument and other charges yesterday after attempting to use counterfeit money to purchase items at the Riverhead Kmart, according to Riverhead Town Police.

At 12:37 p.m. yesterday, a loss prevention employee at Kmart, located at 605 Old Country Road, reported that a man just tried to purchase items using counterfeit money. The purchase was denied and the man left the store, but left behind $320 in counterfeit bills. The employee was able to provide the man’s description and the license plate number of a vehicle the man drove away in.

Police later located the vehicle on Commerce Drive, occupied by three men. Additional counterfeit money was found in the vehicle.

Christopher Justin, 22, of Rosedale, was charged with one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree.

Johnoy O. Crockwell, 20, of Elmont, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Adrian Lewin, 18, of Elmont, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
