(Update: 1:30 p.m.) A Mattituck man was killed in the head-on collision on Route 58 at Harrison Avenue early this morning. Police said Jason Damianos, 49, was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center following the crash. Damianos was the owner of Jason’s Vineyard in Jamesport.  See full story.

Original story: A head-on collision on Route 58 at Harrison Avenue early this morning sent two people to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

The crash, between between a Ford truck and a Jeep Cherokee SUV just before 6 a.m., closed the eastbound lanes of Route 58 between Woodcrest and Harrison.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps requested aviation to transport one victim to Stony Brook University Hospital but then decided to take him to PBMC.

Riverhead Fire Department responded to a request for heavy rescue and then to secure a landing zone at Riverhead High School.

No further information was immediately made available by police.

Eastbound Route 58 remains closed between Woodcrest and Harrison as police investigate the crash scene.
