winter storm warning

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a winter storm warning which is in effect from 7 a.m. tomorrow until 1 a.m. Sunday.

Snow accumulations of four to eight inches are expected.

Travel will be hazardous due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibilities, which will be one-half mile or less.

Winds will blow from the north 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 25 mph.

A small craft advisory is also in effect for rough conditions Saturday afternoon and Saturday night for L.I. Sound east of Port Jefferson, Peconic and Gardiners bays.

The winter storm watch has been canceled.

“A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.” the weather service said.
