In honor of Black History Month the Suffolk County Historical Society pays tribute to Henry Highland Garnet (1815-1882) with its exhibit “A Journey from Slave to Abolitionist to U.S. Ambassador.”

Although one of the most well-known African Americans of the 19th century, Rev. Garnet is often forgotten, as is his connection with Suffolk County. The exhibit, which runs through March 3, tells the story of his commitment to the cause of liberty.
