The Suffolk County Historical Society and Southampton History Museum are suspending their executive directors and pledging to increase the diversity of their leadership after apologizing to members of the Black community for featuring Ku Klux Klan-related content on their websites during Black History Month.

Suffolk County Historical Society issues apology over use of image depicting KKK
An ad for a "monster gathering" of the KKK in Riverhead in August 1926 depicted robed KKK members in the bed of a pickup truck flying large American flags. The image was used by the Suffolk County Historical Society in its "Photo of the Week" email Sunday and posted on its website, drawing fire from the NAACP.

Suffolk County Historical Society opens its doors to people of all abilities
The 923-square-foot addition designed by Stromski Architecture includes an elevator, two handicap-accessible restrooms and a small paved lot with parking spaces dedicated to vehicles bearing handicap-parking permits.
