A 15-year-old boy has been charged with making a terrorist threat after a Snapchat post last night imlpying he planned to bring a weapon to Riverhead High School today, Riverhead Town Police Chief David Hegermiller said.
Hegermiller said weapons found in the boy’s home were turned over to police for safekeeping.
The child was released to the custody of his parents following his arrest and will be arraigned today in family court, the police chief said.
Riverhead Central School District sent out a Connect-Ed call to high school students’ households at 6 a.m. today informing them of the incident. “At this time police believe there is no threat to the high school and all is safe,” Riverhead High School principal Dr. Charles Regan said in the recorded message. “As a precaution we have asked for a police presence at the high school throughout the day.”
