Riverhead defeated Copiague 16-2 at Pulaski Sports Complex in Riverhead yesterday.

The Blue Waves made sure this home opener was a memorable one, scoring five goals in the first three minutes of the game and putting on a lacrosse clinic at the expense of the Copiague Eagles.

Riverhead was relentless and didn’t allow Copiague into their zone until eight minutes into the first quarter. The second quarter was no better for Copiague, as Riverhead filled the net with nine more goals before most of the starters were pulled for the bench squad.

Copiague finally broke the ice near the end of the first half, making it 14-1 at halftime.

Riverhead added two more goals in the second half to Copiague’s one, and put the game away for a 16-2 win.

Riverhead’s next home game is Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. against West Islip.
