Original story:
Main Road in Aquebogue is closed to traffic in both directions due to a head-on crash with injuries in front of Vineyard Caterers that occurred at about 11:30 this morning.
At least one of the drivers was seriously injured in the wreck. He was ejected from his pickup truck, according to radio reports and witnesses at the scene. The operator of the other vehicle, a Tesla, was also injured, but not seriously, according to reports. There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.
The operator of the pickup, a Dodge Ram, was transported by a Suffolk County Police Medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. The operator of the Tesla was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Riverhead Fire Department heavy rescue extricated the Tesla operator from his vehicle. Riverhead Fire Department fire police diverted traffic from Main Road at Church Lane and Tuthill’s Lane. Jamesport Fire Department secured the landing zone for the helicopter at the former Gabrielsen’s farm stand.
Correction: This story was updated to correct the location of the hospital that the driver of the Tesla was taken to. He was transported by RVAC ambulance to Stony Brook, not Peconic Bay Medical Center.
