Dr. Naima Robinson recorded a video response to the Suffolk County Historical Society's "Photo of the Week" feature.

Thank you for your article. But Victoria Berger’s apology does not begin to repair the trauma caused by the Suffolk County Historical Society.

This should never have happened. They absolutely must diversify their staff with a Black historian, a Black board member and honor the history of Black Long Island in their museum. NOW!

This is an egregious injury to a group of American citizens who demand better. It simply will not be tolerated and we do not for one moment, think her letter and promise of sensitivity training is sufficient repair for the harm caused by the article written by the head librarian. It read like a recruitment flyer for the KKK. It is just flatly unacceptable.

We are hurt, saddened and upset in a way that we should not have to be enduring in 2022.

My heart breaks for my children and all of us here on Long Island.

Dr. Naima Robinson is a scholar, historian, educator and lecturer. She resides in North Amityville, where her family has had roots for five generations. She earned a doctorate from Long Island University in 2021.
