The operator of a vehicle involved in a head-on crash on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow last night is facing weapon possession, aggravated DWI and other charges, Riverhead Police said in a press release this morning.
Riverhead Police said Margarito Romero Quinteros, 53, of Riverhead was operating a vehicle eastbound on Sound Avenue east of Twomey Avenue at 7:50 p.m. when he crossed the double-yellow line into the opposite lane and collided with a westbound vehicle.
The driver and four passengers in the westbound vehicle were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries police described as non-life threatening.
Romero Quinteros was in possession of a loaded firearm, police said.
He was arrested on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Circumventing an Interlock Device, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, according to the police report.
Romero Quinteros was processed at Riverhead Police Department headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
